The littoral zone is the intertidal area, sometimes in the ocean, sometimes open to the sun. It might be rocky, sandy, or swampy. Life there, both plant and animal, is adapted to wet and dry, calm and storm; creatures are tenacious and plentiful, plain and beautiful, always fascinating. Spend some time looking into a tidepool; really look until you begin to see; more and more will be revealed to you. I am grateful to have had the chance to look, but I worry about the future. We need to preserve this world and pass it on.
