about

"Spruce Street" is titled like many American shape note hymns, after the place it was written — a street with a purple house in Brattleboro, Vermont. (This is the house of "La Casa Violeta," where the woman who makes me too happy to sleep lives.) Anna Patton is featured on clarinet.
